Hannah Snyder

Missing You

Hannah Snyder is Rob Wilkins’s fifteen-year-old half sister, a lively teenager whose sudden disappearance turns a newly formed sibling relationship into an urgent search. Jessica Mastriani finds her staying in Randy Whitehead Jr.’s apartment and brings her back to Rob, but Hannah’s tearful response to contact from her mother shows that being found does not immediately resolve the conflict behind her flight.

Family Background and Introduction

Hannah enters the story through Rob’s account of a family connection he had not known existed. After Rob’s parents divorced, his father met someone else; that relationship made Hannah Rob’s half sister. Hannah was living with her mother and had been in conflict with her when she began writing to Rob’s father. He told her about Rob and Rob’s mother, and Hannah eventually called Rob. For Rob, learning that he had a little sister he had never known about was a startling discovery; the two began a relationship only after Hannah reached out.

Rob describes Hannah as funny, kind, and feisty, and says she reminds him of Jessica Mastriani. The comparison establishes the lively impression she makes on him, while also landing awkwardly with Jessica, who is conscious of her feelings for Rob. The scene thus introduces Hannah both as an individual in Rob’s life and as a new presence in the unresolved emotional history between Rob and Jessica.

A New Sibling Bond and Sudden Disappearance

A week before Rob tells Jessica about the crisis, he picked Hannah up from her mother’s home in Indianapolis and brought her to stay with him. Their early time together seemed unusually easy: Rob says they got along as if they had grown up together and never been apart. They shared interests in cars, motorcycles, The Simpsons, Spider-Man, Italian food, and fireworks. His description stresses not just their new kinship but the speed with which they found common ground.

That closeness makes Hannah’s disappearance especially abrupt. Two days before Rob speaks to Jessica, he woke to find Hannah gone. Her bed had not been slept in, her belongings remained in her room, and neither her mother nor the police had been able to locate her. Rob’s hands, usually busy with something, become still and lie flat on the table as he tells Jessica what has happened. The gesture marks a change in the conversation: his excitement about finding a sister gives way to the helplessness of not knowing where she is.

Hannah and Randy Whitehead Jr.

Jessica eventually finds Hannah at apartment 2T. Hannah does not know who is at the door when Jessica knocks, and Jessica gets it opened by answering simply that it is her. This brief encounter establishes the imbalance of their meeting: Jessica knows whom she has come to find, while Hannah has not yet recognized her. Jessica’s subsequent conversation with Hannah reveals that Randy Whitehead Jr. is twenty-seven and that Hannah is fifteen.

Hannah repeats Randy’s claims that age does not matter and that the two were connected in a previous life and destined to be together. She also reports his argument that human laws cannot recognize a love as true as theirs. Jessica answers directly that Hannah is fifteen, that Randy is twelve years older, and that his having a sexual relationship with her is illegal. The exchange exposes the danger and legal stakes of Randy’s framing without establishing from these scenes whether the two have had sex. Hannah’s repetition of his claims shows how strongly his account of their relationship has shaped what she says in response to concern.

Return to Rob and Its Immediate Aftermath

Jessica brings a humbled Hannah back to Rob’s house. Rob is on the phone when they enter, already speaking with Hannah’s mother, Gwen Snyder. Seeing Hannah, he tells Gwen that she has arrived and appears fine, then offers Hannah the phone so she can talk to her mother. The moment puts Hannah physically back with her family while making clear that contact with her mother is emotionally difficult.

Hannah’s face crumples; she runs upstairs in tears, and a bedroom door slams moments later. Her return is therefore not presented as a simple reunion or a settled resolution. Jessica has located her and brought her to Rob, but Hannah still withdraws from the conversation her mother is trying to have. The sequence closes on that contrast: Rob’s relief at her arrival, Gwen’s attempt to speak with her, and Hannah’s retreat into the house.

Narrative Role

Hannah’s disappearance draws Jessica back into Rob’s immediate life at a moment when their own relationship remains unsettled. Rob’s appeal to Jessica follows the revelation of his new sister and the abrupt loss of her; Jessica’s search then becomes the means by which Hannah returns to his home. The plot also shifts the meaning of Hannah’s apparent escape: what first presents itself as a missing-person crisis becomes entangled with Randy’s claims about her relationship with him and the age difference between them.

The scenes keep Hannah’s perspective partial. Her words disclose what Randy has told her, and her reactions show both resistance to being questioned and distress when her mother calls, but the excerpts do not explain all the reasons she left or what she wants next. That incompleteness matters to her role: she is not only the person others search for or discuss, but a teenager whose own feelings remain visible in flashes—her insistence on Randy’s promises, her lowered gaze, and finally her tears—without being fully resolved by her return.
